Beach and Tide Conditions
Recommended tide for kitesurfing is High Tide .
Ambury Park, New Zealand is a Shallow, Flat and Small waves spot.
There is a big flat sand bank that is covered at high tide a short way offshore. As tide goes out, the water over the sand bank become really flat. You should keep an eye out for the sand bank getting close to the surface so you don't hit it at speed. There is a shell bank at the NE end that even at high tide is just visible - keep an eye on that - when the bank that leads up to the shell bank starts to get exposed, you risk hitting the (sand/mud) top of the flat section. A couple of large ships occasionally use the channel to the north of the sand bank area at high tide - keep out of the shipping channel when they are around! At mid-tide, the current in the shipping channel can be significant so best times are a couple of hours either side of high tide - any lower tides and there isn't much water anyway. The shipping channel can be very choppy as it is quite deep.
