Beach and Tide Conditions
Recommended tide for kitesurfing is High Tide,Low Tide .
Monkstown, Ireland is a Shallow, Flat, Chop, Small waves and Medium waves spot.
The launching/landing area is reported to be of Tidal size.
Salthill/Monkstown beach opens to the north consisting of sand and large rocks. The beach is life guarded from June to August from 10:30 to 7 pm. Lots of rocks and concrete walls. Also electrical lines for the Dart (public rail transport) are directly behind the beach. Launch area is really small on high tide but runs out 300m on a low tide.
The beach is shallow and flat. Deeper water outside. The area is suitable for swimming and Standup paddle boarding. The sea covers some of the rocks at high tide, but the area is still shallow. Monkstown/Salthill is a very popular location for swimmers to the north of the beach and for Standup paddle boarding kiting and wind surfing. Workable 2 hours or more from high tide. The location is very tidal and is kite-able only when the tide is going out or out due to some overhead lines on the train line. Otherwise there are some rocks close to the beach but after 100 meters there are no rocks and a sandy beach with some shells. This area is a blue flag area. Good clean water and is best for kitesurfing and windsurfing in a NW wind.
